It was after a visit from his brothers Reg and Des from Australia who had both had cancer, who insisted that Norman have a check up. Although he had no signs, the results were positive for prostrate cancer. It was hoped that they had caught it in its early stages. This was in 2004. Norman underwent a major operation to have the prostrate removed and had a course of treatment, but was determined to live life to the full.
